A home video game console called the PlayStation 5 (PS5) was created by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was unveiled as the PlayStation 4’s replacement in April 2019, released in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, and South Korea on November 12, 2020, and went on sale globally the following week. The PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles, both of which were introduced in the same month, are both members of the ninth generation of video game consoles. An optical disc drive that plays Ultra HD Blu-ray discs is included of the base model. Since the Digital Edition is a less expensive option for merely downloading games, it lacks this drive. The two variations went on sale at the same time.
The primary hardware components of the PlayStation 5 are a solid-state drive designed for high-speed data streaming to enable notable improvements in storage performance, an AMD GPU capable of displaying content in 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second, hardware-accelerated ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and the Tempest Engine for hardware-accelerated 3D audio effects.
How Much is ps5 Price in Nigeria

Each system manages its 16GB of GDDR6 RAM slightly differently in terms of overall memory bandwidth, but both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have this capacity. The next-generation consoles also use NVMe SSDs for storage, an advancement that will speed up game loading compared to mechanical hard drives. Since its release, the game has only been available in Nigeria for 440,000NGN.
ps5 Additional Accessories
Accessories include:
- A charging station for the DualSense
- A new HD camera and
- A media remote control
The PS5’s Tempest Engine 3D audio technology is combined with the Pulse 3D wireless headset. The majority of current PS4 controllers and accessories, some of which have restricted functionality, are backwards compatible with the PS5 when used with PS4 games only.Since Rock Band 2, Rock Band peripherals are supported. The current PlayStation Move, PlayStation Camera, PlayStation VR Aim Controller, fully licenced headsets, and speciality controllers with official licences, such as flight sticks and racing wheels, can all be used with PS5 titles.

ps5 Apps Review
Almost all entertainment apps are available on the PS5, including Disney Plus, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and Apple TV Plus, which is new to the PlayStation ecosystem. In my testing, all of these apps performed just like their PS4 counterparts, which isn’t a terrible thing.
Regardless of whether you are binge-watching Chappelle’s Show on Netflix or checking up on wrestling news on YouTube, every app that was tested loaded swiftly and streamed consistently. But more crucially, the PS5’s streaming apps are now simpler to access than ever before thanks to a convenient Media tab that can be accessed from the home screen with just a single button click. That’s a nice improvement over the PS4, which hid all of its streaming apps in the TV & Video menu, which loaded slowly.
ps5 Design Review
The PS5 system is a doorway into a 5D universe, and the controller is the key to enter it, according to the fundamental notion that guided the product design process. First, we used the following guiding principle in the development of all PS5 hardware parts: “Reject the conventional view of hardware as a solid mass and create a thing that is beyond matter.” Based on this concept, we created the following fundamental design narrative: “From a universe in another dimension, a strong body of energy that has the limitless potential of five dimensions descends to earth and starts to morph into a concrete shape to interact with humans.”
The console, controllers, and peripherals all originate from the same world and are shaped into forms that are appropriate for interacting with people. This story served as our motivation as we worked to develop a design that gives the hardware as a whole a sense of life.
ps5 Hardware And Software Review
Hardware:
The proprietary system on a chip (SoC) that powers the PlayStation 5 was created in collaboration with AMD and Sony. It features an eight-core, 7 nm AMD Zen 2 CPU with a variable frequency top speed of 3.5 GHz.A 64-bit x86-64 instruction set processor is the Zen 2. Additionally a customised component, the integrated GPU is based on AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture. The GPU features 36 processing units that operate at a variable frequency that is capped at 2.23 GHz, giving it a theoretical maximum speed of 10 teraFLOPS.
The cooling system features a big heat sink with a typical heat pipe design that, according to Sony, has “shape and airflow [which] make it possible to achieve the same performance as a vapour chamber” and a double-sided cooling fan for air intake that is 120 mm in diameter and 45 mm thick. Between the SoC and the heat sink, there is a liquid metal thermal conductor used for SoC cooling.
Hardware revisions:
In August 2021, Sony started selling the PlayStation 5 with a small hardware update. According to Digital Foundry and Gamers Nexus, the new design lowered the size and weight of the heat sink, lowering the net system weight by 300 grammes (0.66 lb), without significantly affecting cooling performance. The console stand is designed so that no screwdriver is necessary.
Sony started delivering a new hardware iteration for the PS5, using a die shrink of the original SoC, in August 2022 for both the base and digital models. As a result, the SoC’s power consumption was reduced, and Sony again revised the heatsink, resulting in a reduction in weight. The standard edition now weighs 3.9 kg, down from 4.5 kg in the launch version, while the Digital Edition now weighs 3.4 kg (down from 3.9 kg).
System software:
Sony refers to the PlayStation 5’s revamped user interface as “accessible and informative” and notes that it offers real-time information on friends’ whereabouts, available multiplayer options, and single-player quests and rewards. All of these options are “visible in the UI,” according to Cerny, since “we don’t want the player to have to boot the game, see what’s up, boot the game, see what’s up.”A “very interesting evolution of the OS,” a “complete overhaul of the PS4 UI,” and “some very different new concepts” are how Matt MacLaurin, the current vice president of UX design at PlayStation, described the revised user interface.According to MacLaurin, the UI is incredibly quick and has a strong visual language.
Storage architecture:
The PlayStation 5’s internal storage consists of a custom-made 825 GB solid-state drive (667 GB of which are usable), which has a 12-channel interface and a raw throughput of 5.5 GB/s. It was discovered that this unusual disc capacity, as opposed to a more standard 512 GB or 1 TB device, was best for the 12-channel approach. The unit has a typical throughput of 8–9 GB/s and includes a specialised decompression unit that supports zlib and the brand-new Oodle Kraken data compression technology from RAD Game Tools.
The primary request from game developers, according to Mark Cerny, was for a fast SSD, thus in addition to having a potential raw read speed 100 times faster than PS4, the goal was to remove input/output (I/O) bottleneck areas so the performance target could be achieved. In order to accomplish this, Sony created a unique chip with numerous coprocessors that cooperate with the flash memory controller to lower latency and channel data more effectively across the system. The bespoke unit can process up to 22 GB/s of compressible data at its maximum rate.
